Fireplace Curtain: Before & After

Call me crazy, but I love this! I fashioned a temporary fireplace "curtain" out of a yard of burlap. My husband HATES it, my sister doesn't GET it... but I absolutely LOVE it!  I plan to add some vinyl scroll details to the glass panes, but I had to get opinions on the burlap first.

Since we don't use the fireplace, I see no reason to be forced to look at the inside of it.  This is what the inside looked like before the curtain went up... yuck!

Am I crazy???  I'm thinking the burlap is a major improvement.  What do you think?

Since you never use the fireplace I think the burlap is great - and vinyl on the glass would be oh.so.cute! : ) NFF

I like your idea. A lot. We don't use our fireplace, either. Every winter, my husband stuffs a roll of insulation in there and puts some styrofoam in to keep the cold out. I think a curtain might do just the trick to make it a bit more attractive looking. Thanks for sharing!

Burlap makes a lot of things better! Including this. ~ My husband doesn't really get my penchant for burlap either.

The burlap is a great idea! It's sure to keep the cold out, too. Something I'm gonna try since we don't use the fireplace at all. I've got huge prints blocking it but that still doesn't keep the cold out.

Much better than looking at a black hole all summer. I'd love if you'd link up with Fabric Fun Thursday.

That's a great idea! I'm curious as to how you attached it...I would love to try that with mine.

Thanks! Kristin, I couldn't find an email address for you, so I'll respond here. My fireplace had metal curtain that was held in place by a tiny curtain-type rod. I just put a hem in the burlap with iron-on hemming tape and then slid it onto the old rod.

I think the burlap was clever (and your stencil you add later definitely adds something), but I just saw a painted fireplace over on younghouselove.com - they removed the grate and the stuff inside, cleaned, and painted the interior black and I think it looks sharp. Then you could put some candles or vases in there.
